What should I expect during a FemFirstHealth women’s health physical therapy initial evaluation?
During a FemFirstHealth initial evaluation, we will ask you a very detailed history and go over all of your symptoms that you are presenting with. Because we also have a deep orthopedic background, we will assess your posture and joint range of motion, as well as your strength.
If you are coming in for a pelvic floor initial evaluation, we will also do an orthopedic physical therapy assessment, as well as an internal exam if needed to palpate the muscles that may responsible for your symptoms. From this evaluation, we will determine what exercises to give you as part of your home exercise program and crate a plan for future visits.
Who needs Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Anyone who is experiencing pelvic pain, painful sex, painful sitting, incontinence, or sexual dysfunction can benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. We also can help anyone who needs an assessment of their Diastasis Recti.
How long is each physical therapy session?
All of our sessions are one-on-one with the physical therapist for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Do I need a prescription to see a physical therapist?
You can see a physical therapist without a physical therapy script for either up to 10 visits or 30 calendar days, whichever comes first. This jurisdiction is allowed through Direct Access in New York State. After that time, you will need to contact a doctor to obtain a physical therapy script. We can also help you to find a doctor if needed.
However, please note that the following patients must have a prescription for physical therapy, regardless of New York State law:
Pregnant
Postpartum
Post surgical
